Using the Personal Edition Desktop Client

When your PC establishes a connection to your network, the Personal Edition desktop client creates a secure connection to PCS Business Connection. It is this connection that lets you directly access enterprise applications from wireless devices. For detailed instructions on how to use the Personal Edition desktop client, see the online help in the Personal Edition desktop client.

To access your corporate email from a wireless device, you must complete the following steps:

  1. Your PC must be running and logged in to the corporate network. You can still maintain a secure environment on your PC. See Securing Your PC.
  2. The Personal Edition desktop client must be running.

    -OR-

You can set up Connection Sharing to access your account through a co-worker's computer. See Setting Up Connection Sharing.

Note: If you want to access only your personal Internet email (IMAP or POP) through Personal Edition, you do not need to leave your PC or the Personal Edition desktop client running or to set up Connection Sharing.

Securing Your PC

To access your corporate email from a wireless device, your computer must be connected to your corporate network and the Personal Edition desktop client must be running.

The Personal Edition desktop client automatically disconnects when a computer goes into power-saving mode (sleep or hibernation) and automatically reconnects after it powers back up. For this reason, you should disable these settings.

To maintain a secure environment, when leaving your computer logged into the network, follow the steps below.

  1. Lock your workstations by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del.
  2. Select Lock Computer.
